One of the main elements that has to do with our genre, drama, is low lighting. It conveys an eerie mood and is “usually dramatic and full of mystery” (Lightstalking). They believe that it helps bring attention to the actors and guide the audience’s eyes exactly where you want them to go, emphasizing the scene and story. They also state that specifically the story has to be more realistic and relatable so it touches the audiences hearts, meaning it has to have more verisimilitude than other genres. They also show the contrast of the actors being at their best and at their worst, so the audience is able to understand how drastically the actors have been affected. They also deal with current issues relating to the time period in which the film is based.
The main way I see our group applying this to our film is by making the actors relatable through our dialogue. Our piece deals with drugs and its hard to be related to drugs, unless you do them or are a drug dealer. The main way I think I’ll apply the idea of relatability is by the emotions the actors convey and the way the traits are represented. They’re also going to use slang from the current era, making the characters seem more relatable as teens and having more verisimilitude. I will also shoot the movie with darker lighting or a dark filter in order to convey the seriousness of the moment.
